Supporting M&E Contractors From Design Stages To Installation

48 Carey Street Our customer was recently involved with the development of this luxurious new residential development in Holborn, London. Drawing on years of experience, Kernow were able to support the contractor with the design and fabrication of bespoke fixings and bracketry to ensure this project adhered to the time frames specified.

Background

The above ground development comprises of 9 floors formed in reinforced concrete with heavily-articulated handset stone and an aluminium façade. Basement level 1 features a car parking area, while basement level 2 includes the main plant area and amenities such as a swimming pool, sauna, cinema room, various private dining areas and associated kitchens. The block accommodates 202 luxury apartments, some of which feature their own private gardens. The development also includes an enclosed courtyard with a children’s play area and mature trees.

Kernow Fixings’ Involvement & Support

48 Carey Street BracketryKernow had been supplying this project with fixings, bracketry and site welfare for a number of years. When it came to plastic ducting, the M&E Contractor involved Kernow from the very beginning with drawings and take off lists. We quoted special project prices and supplied thousands of lengths thermal and standard ducting and their associated components.

Kernow offered a large amount of pre-planning and the design of pre-fabricated brackets specifically designed for the contractor to raise the floor level to install pipework under a false floor. The bespoke brackets were made to order and cut at our pre-fab unit and delivered to site on a pallet ready to be installed. The M&E contractor was impressed by the speed and labour-saving aspects that Kernow offered as it massively reduced their down time and also ensured that there were no hot works on site.

What Support Did Kernow Provide?

The contractor explained to us what they were trying to achieve and how the pipe work was being supported. We then designed the brackets and ensured this bespoke design would suit the contractor and their requirements.

Challenges

As with many London sites and locations like this, the site came with a whole host of logistical issues. As a key supplier in this area, we are well equipped with the logistical knowledge of how to overcome these issues and working with the contractor on these wasn’t a problem to us. Each delivery had a specific booking in time and date which we accommodated with ease. By fulfilling these specific requirements Kernow has been a reliable support to the contractor, allowing them to progress as planned and keeping to project timeframes.

Outcome

48 Carey Street

Years of knowledge combined with our bespoke prefabrication service proved invaluable and saved the customer both time and money. As a result, the M&E contractor was very happy with the outcome and the way Kernow has performed with this project.
